UN chief appoints new force commander of peacekeeping mission in CAR

United Nations, May 16: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday appointed Maj. Gen. Humphrey Nyone of Zambia as the new force commander of the world body's peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (CAR), said a UN spokesman.
Nyone succeeds Lt. Gen. Daniel Sidiki Traore of Burkina Faso, who completed his assignment as the force commander of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR in January 2023.
Nyone joined the Army of Zambia in 1994, and has extensive peacekeeping experience with the United Nations, having served in the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2006 to 2007 and in the UN Mission in Sierra Leone from 2001 to 2002, according to Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN chief.
