Israel launches major operation in the West Bank

Jan 23, 2025

Tel Aviv [Israel], January 23: Not long after the ceasefire agreement took effect in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army on January 21 launched a new military campaign targeting Palestinian gunmen in Jenin City in the West Bank.
According to The Times of Israel , the operation began with a series of airstrikes targeting the infrastructure of the armed groups. Later, the Israeli army and many members of the security forces and border police also joined the operation. Local health officials reported that at least 10 people were killed and 40 injured in the attacks.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation was another step toward his goal of strengthening security in the West Bank. Israeli officials said the multi-day operation was planned in coordination with the Palestinian Authority (PA) in Ramallah, which is a rival to Hamas and fears it is gaining influence in the West Bank. Palestinian media reported that Israeli troops entered Jenin after PA forces withdrew from the area after weeks of fighting against Hamas-linked militants.
Regarding the ceasefire situation in the Gaza Strip , the UN humanitarian agency said yesterday that aid shipments are flowing smoothly into the territory. Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on January 19, more than 2,400 trucks carrying relief goods have been delivered. The agreement stipulates that at least 600 trucks of aid must be delivered to Gaza every day during the 6-week ceasefire.
