Israel issues 'final warning' to Iran, Houthis at UN

Dec 31, 2024

Tel Aviv [Israel], December 31: Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, stressed on December 30 that Israel has the ability to strike any target in the Middle East, including Iran. He added that Israel will not tolerate attacks by Houthi forces.
"To the Houthis, perhaps you have not paid attention to what has happened in the Middle East in the past year. I remind you what happened to Hamas, Hezbollah, Assad and all those who tried to destroy us. This is your final warning. This is not a threat. This is a commitment. You will share the same miserable fate," Mr. Danon affirmed.
Recently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel is "just getting started" following Tel Aviv's airstrikes on multiple Houthi-linked targets in Yemen.
Also on December 30, the Israeli military said it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen before it reached Israeli territory. "After a siren sounded a short time ago in central Israel, a missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force before it reached Israeli territory," Reuters quoted Israel's statement as saying.
However, hours after the Israeli military's announcement, a senior Houthi member said the force would not stop attacks on Israel. "The attacks on Israel continue and the (Houthi) support for the Gaza Strip continues," Mohamed Ali al-Houthi, head of the Houthi Supreme Revolutionary Committee, said on social media X.
In response to the above situation, UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East Khaled Khiari reiterated his deep concern about the escalation of violence, and called on the Houthis to stop attacks on Israel and respect international law and humanitarian law.
"Further military escalation could jeopardize regional stability with negative political, security, economic and humanitarian consequences," Mr. Khiari said. "Millions of people in Yemen, Israel and across the region will continue to suffer the consequences of an unending escalation."
